I set my u9s some ‘homework’ to find out about a player, Amy Rodriguez. Later in the week, we completed what I called a dribbling ‘skills challenge’. ‘Skills Challenges’ are not a new idea, I am sure many clubs and organisations do them. I then related the skills challenge to the player that they had been tasked with doing some research on.

These were u9 female players who generally did not watch alot of football / soccer. My approach has been to provide them with visual references which they could relate to. Images of female players who have achieved a good playing level, players who operate in various positions, pictures for their memory database which would support their development, enjoyment and education of our game.
