I was really pleased to receive an invitation to attend the ‘Raise Your Game’ conference as a Mentor. the event was hosted by Kick It Out, on 16th April 2014, at Wembley Stadium, London.
Kick It Out, formed in 1993, is a charity which is internationally known. It was created to tackle racist attitudes within our game and its aims include facilitating and enabling footballing authorities, clubs, players and fans to tackle all forms of discrimination.
Kick It Out has links with several established organisations, including UEFA and FIFA and it’s representatives include Troy Townsend (Mentoring and Leadership Project manager) and Clarke Carlisle (Kick It Out Ambassador and former Chair of the Professional Footballer’s Association).
Mentoring
I attended this event as a mentor, however, I could not resist hero-worshipping . There were some extremely inspiring individuals and people who are subtly changing lives each day through their coaching and their own mentoring skills. I have had a mentor for a couple of years. He has advised me, critiqued my practical and written sessions and he has guided me. I believe in passing that ‘forward’, mentor others with or without having the grand title of ‘Mentor’. We ALL need a mentor and we all have mentoring skills. I was very inspired by the Raise Your Game conference.
